About
Tyler Blint-Welsh (b. 1996) is a Brooklyn-born photographer, teacher, and journalist whose practice is inspired by a commitment to capturing truth. Working primarily in wet-plate collodion (the 1850s-era photo process), his work explores permanence, memory, and tactility. Through documenting contemporary society using a historical medium, his practice represents a rejection of the commodification of the image.
His second photography book, “It Was Always Us,” featuring 100+ portraits and interviews of the most influential Black techno DJs across history, will be published via Blurring Books in 2027.
He also frequently leads analog photography workshops and is the co-founder of Room 204, a darkroom education series. His first published work “Any Sunday in Coacalco,” focused on Mexican luchadores, highlighting the roughness, absurdity, and passion that defines lucha libre, with a collection of images depicting raw violence, feats of athleticism, and moments of vulnerability. Tyler is a former Wall Street Journal staff writer, and has contributed photography to The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and the Washington Post.
